A good family lawyer that has successfully represented men in the courts will know what your case outcome is likely to be. From their experience they will be familiar with how a judge will rule on the issues in your case. Not only do they know the judge's personalities, they know the law.

You may not be happy with what they are saying but they know which points are worth arguing on your behalf.

Everything that your lawyer does for you costs money. A simple phone call can mean $20 on your tab. If you have a lawyer's appointment jot down things you want to address. Each 15 minute block of time is costing you.

Discuss concerns with your lawyer and heed their advice. Many issues that are important to you will be brushed aside and considered trivial by the courts. Pick your battles.

Best case scenario would be to negotiate and compromise on the small things with your spouse. However if this is impossible be prepared to sacrifice and move on. The courts are only concerned with the big issues of custody, property and support. They really don't care that the classic album you bought in 1969 is sitting in her closet but is technically yours!

If your lawyer advises that to pursue a point is a lost cause then bite the bullet and accept your fate. Try and keep your expense and stress levels to a minimum. Divorce is full of unfairness and bias towards men.

Try to stay healthy and strong for the sake of yourself and your children.
